"My dad started FAME publishing in 1959 ... and ended up producing an artist named Authur Alexander who had a hit called "You Better Move on," which was covered by The Stones and The Beatles. From that, we built this studio in 1961 and we've been recording hit records since then.

The legacy of Muscle Shoals and FAME go together because FAME started it all. It's just evolved over 60 years and it's still as amazing sounding as it was in the beginning, if not better, honestly.

"Studio A was the original studio built in '60. The first song recorded here was a song called "Steal Away" by Jimmy Hughes, which became a big hit record. This studio was our only studio up through '67 when Studio B was built.

"The Allman Brothers were the first band to record in Studio B. So that room's got its own history too. Then in 2018, Glenn Rosenstein and myself decided to make it a second "A" room, up to the same specs as Studio A.

"The difference between Studio A and Studio B is slight tone differences because of the shapes of the rooms and their size. Studio B is more oblong-shaped and this one (Studio A) is more vertical. They're both great-sounding rooms.

"Originally, there were two chambers with Studio A. Then when Studio B was built we added two more chambers. The original chamber, which was always considered the very best one, is the one we've refurbished.

It's just an amazing sound. It's a raw organic echo that you can't really replicate. We've recently refurbished them with the help of IK.

"If you listen to the records from the '60s and '70s, Wilson Pickett and Clarence Carter and Candi Staton, those chambers are very prevalent on those records.
