The Farm Stone Room recaptures the magic in the band Genesis' own studio, "Fisher Lane Farm" in the UK, where they enlisted the original engineer Hugh Padgham to build a stone-walled drum room to the same specs as the one at The Town House recording studio in which Phil Collins made history tracking his explosive drum sound for the worldwide hit song "In the Air Tonight."
And while both studios are sadly now gone, IK was given exclusive access to the Farm before it closed forever to preserve its distinctive sound in a brand-new plug-in. The Farm Stone Room is here to give your drum tracks the sonic impact that only this type of rare stone live room can offer. Awash in the unique reverb of the studio's stone-walled drum room and crushed by compression, it has become perhaps the signature drum sound of the ′80s.
Multi-platinum Producer/Mixer John Kurzweg has worked with many big names in music, including Creed, Puddle of Mudd, Eagle Eye Cherry and Godsmack. We caught up with John about The Farm Stone Room and here's what he has to say about loving this unique stone-walled reverb that recreates the massive drum sound of the '80s.
I was able to dial in a great room sound for drums in seconds. I love the sound quality and all the important parameters are right there where you need them. With the added 3 band EQ + parallel compression on the stereo and mono room mics, it's so easy to give drums the perfect space for your mix.
About the artist
John Kurzweg is a multi-platinum record producer and multi-instrumentalist/singer/songwriter who first became known for his work with the successful post-grunge band Creed in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Three of Creed's records, which Kurzweg produced & mixed were certified multi-platinum and helped Creed achieve worldwide popularity as well as producing other popular rock artists mentioned above.
Kurzweg, who in the late '80s signed with Atlantic records as a solo artist, continues recording & performing his own brand of rock music. And of course, John still finds time on the other side of the glass producing and mixing for various current artists and still living the studio life.
