Sound & Recording on Pianoverse

“The sound responds naturally to your touch.”

Sound & Recording Magazine of Japan has published a very positive review of Pianoverse by Yasuhiro Nakashima, a successful composer who has done commercial music for companies like Asahi Beer, Aston Martin and Toyota.

The included video of Yasuhiro playing the different pianos shows how expressive Pianoverse is in conveying a mood or emotion. Have a listen.

Pianoverse may set a new standard for piano instruments, with its balanced coexistence of straightforward output, responsiveness to keystrokes and tonal diversity.

When I play it, the sound responds naturally to my touch, making it very pleasing to play.

Yasuhiro Nakashima

Piano as an instrument is so complex with its overtones and the noise it generates that it is very challenging to mix with multiple microphones.

The approach of allocating all of the sample resources to the close mics and using convolution reverb to reproduce space seems to make sense in real-world use.
