A Turning Point in Amplifier Design

Bridging the gap between the raw warmth of tweed amplifiers and the cleaner, more powerful amplifiers that followed, Brown Panel amplifiers represent a brief period of innovation when designers were actively exploring new circuits, new voicings, and new performance capabilities that would ultimately shape the next generation of American amplifiers.

From the raw, expressive tones of Chris Stapleton to the Texas blues-rock sounds that inspired ZZ Top and the pristine American cleans later embraced by players like Mark Knopfler, the collection captures the warmth, punch, and dynamic response that made these amplifiers favorites in studios and on stages alike.

Brown Panel Amps

Capturing an Era

The Brown Panel Signature Collection brings together nine meticulously preserved brown-tolex amplifiers from the early 1960s, captured across a wide range of settings to reveal their unique tonal character.

Each Tone Model was captured through an SSL® 4000G console using carefully selected microphones and original speaker pairings, preserving the complete relationship between amplifier, cabinet, speaker, and microphone.

The collection includes Amp + Cab Tone Models, Amp-Only Tone Models, and Complex Rigs that expand the sonic range of each amplifier while preserving its core voice and feel.

Complex Rigs feature signal chains incorporating pedals and circuits based on the TS9 Tube Screamer®, Tube Driver, Klon® Centaur®, MXR® Distortion+, and 6G15 Reverb Unit preamp.

The result is a comprehensive exploration of nine distinct amplifiers from one of the most influential periods in American amplifier design.
